Community Guidelines

The rules that keep EmberGround a respectful, productive space for engineers at every stage.

Be Respectful

Treat every member — student, mentor, or professional — with respect. Disagree with ideas, not people. No harassment, discrimination, trolling, or personal attacks of any kind. We are a global community with diverse backgrounds.

Be Constructive

Feedback should be specific and actionable. "This is bad" helps no one. "Consider using a hash map here for O(1) lookups" helps everyone. We are here to level up, not tear down.

Keep It Legal & Ethical

No sharing of copyrighted material, proprietary code, leaked exam questions, or anything that violates local laws. Plagiarism in hackathons or projects results in immediate disqualification.

No Self-Promotion Spam

Sharing your projects, blogs, or startup is encouraged — once. Spamming the same link across channels is not. If you want to promote something broadly, ask a moderator or use the designated showcase channel.

What We Expect From You

Students & Learners

  • Ask questions freely. No question is 'too basic.'
  • Do your own research before asking. Show what you've tried.
  • Respect mentors' time. Come prepared to office hours.
  • Help others when you can. Teaching solidifies learning.

Professionals & Mentors

  • Be punctual for office hours, workshops, and 1:1 sessions.
  • Share real-world experience, not just textbook theory.
  • Maintain professional boundaries. mentorship is not recruitment.
  • Give actionable, kind feedback that helps engineers grow.

Events & Hackathons

  • Register only if you plan to attend. No-shows block others.
  • Follow hackathon rules: original work, no plagiarism, no cheating.
  • Be a good teammate. Divide work fairly. Credit all contributors.
  • Respect judges' decisions. Feedback is a gift, not an attack.

Content & Communication

  • Use the right channel. Tracks for tech deep-dives, events for logistics.
  • No NSFW, political, or off-topic content in main channels.
  • Report bugs and issues via the proper form, not random DMs.
  • Give credit when sharing others' work, tutorials, or code.

Enforcement & Moderation

Violations may result in warnings, temporary suspension, or permanent banning depending on severity. Moderators and community leads have final say. Repeat offenders in hackathons may be disqualified and banned from future events.

Appeals can be submitted via the contact form within 14 days of any enforcement action.
